What can a felter do when they break their elbow ?

Cry ?  Well it might come to that yet.

Last Friday it was a beautiful day , cold and sunny. The first day when there hadn’t been snow, lashing rain or ice for three weeks. So we decided to go cycling. A big big mistake.

Less than 5 km from home I gently slid to the ground on a patch of black ice. Was I OK? I wasn’t sure. Certainly, my face and my arm hurt. I gingerly cycled home and contemplated my injuries. Did I need an X-ray? …. or just ice packs and rest. Eventually, we decided I needed an X-ray, and I was driven to our local urgent care centre.

With all COVID precautions in place, and no other patients, I was quickly diagnosed with a fracture to the head of my radius. Treatment sling for 4 – 6weeks. Well, it could have been worse it could have been my hip or my right arm. Thinking positively. However if I am not cycling, I am felting or dyeing or eco printing or cooking or knitting. All pretty difficult to do with only one arm. Not to mention that I can’t currently go anywhere or go and see anyone for a chat and a cup of tea.

Thank goodness I have just finished my pieces for the IFA 2021 online exhibition

Here’s a glimpse of them.

Not one to hang around and mope, I thought well perhaps this is an opportunity of getting top of my long-neglected website and start blogging again. There are certainly a lot of hours in the day to fill, and there are only so many books I can read and films I can watch. So whilst being waited on hand and foot by my wonderful husband I started to look at my website. Not so good, not really working too well at all. It really needs an overhaul. As well as pretty out of date in terms of what I have made.

The first step is to write a list of all the things I think need to be done with the website.

Upload all my new photos. Pretty easy. Tick
Rewrite the statement about me. Tick
Find a new photo of me. Pretty reasonable one from summer last year. Tick

Nice soft focus !

Rewrite the techniques I use.  Tick

Work out why the gallery part of the website isn’t working. Pretty tricky.

I am currently stalled here. While I wrestle ( metaphorically ) with jetpack, WordPress and photon and themes. But let me be patient……………

I have 4 – 6weeks and it’s only been three days, so I am sure that it is a website jumble of jargon I can solve. Meanwhile, I can publish this blog. So perhaps there is a silver lining after all. Time will tell.

  1. Oh dear, sorry to hear that Jane! I hope you soon recover.

There’s a whole repertoire of pieces for one- handed pianists – perhaps you could write a paper on one-armed felting??? I think it might be like one-armed rowing, you can only go round in circles……..

    1. Thanks Thelma I might give it a try for now I think I am going to try updating my website. That will probably take longer than the fixing of a broken elbow xxxx
